• The Hunger Games Suzanne Collins
• Catching Fire Suzanne Collins (best YA read of 2009)
• The Road Cormac McCarthy (one of my favourite books ever along with Sonya Hartnett’s Of a Boy and Ian McEwan’s Atonement)

2010

• The 10pm Question Kate De Goldi (best read of Summer 2010)
• 13 Reasons Why Jay Asher (a warning that this features a girl who has suicided)
• Mice Gordon Reece (you won’t be able to put this down until it’s finished)

2011
Fly away Peter – David Malouf (why haven’t I ever read this book? It’s poetically marvellous)
The Knife of Never Letting Go – Patrick Ness (the first in his Chaos Walking trilogy. I’ve just finished the second one, The Ask and the Answer. Really original stuff.)
American Gods- Neil Gaiman. This book, written ten years ago, is amazing. A man travels across America encountering gods from people who brought them from their homelands and left them trapped when they died. Lots of mellow bits. This man can write.
2012
The Scar – China Mieville. That’s it. I give up (almost). Who could beat the imagination of this writer?
